School Council

School Council 2009-2010

The aim of School Council is to provide the children of Gospel Oak an opportunity to have their opinions heard. The children, in KS2, vote for the best two candidates from their class (one boy and one girl). The candidates with the most votes are then elected to the School Council.

The successful candidates must have the following attributes; responsibility, honesty, reliability, eager to learn and must also be able to remain unbiased in their quest to improve their school. The councillors will talk with their class every week to tell them what is happening in School council and to also listen to any ideas their classmates may have about the school. School Council has regular meetings to discuss the views and ideas of their classmates.

School Council are responsible for all of the schools recycling and are expected to remember which classroom/office they must take the recycling from, and on which day/time.

School Council will be taking part in the Camden School Council Debates this year, which takes place at Camden Town Hall. We will also be visiting the Houses of Parliament to learn how important decisions are made by the Government. Previously, School Council was very fortunate to be invited to visit No. 11 Downing Street, which is where the Chancellor of the Exchequer lives and works. We are hoping that this year’s new School Council will also be offered the same opportunity. We will also have regular visits to our meetings from different members of the school community, such as Councillor Nash Ali and Alan Seymour. We also work closely with G.O.S.A in various different ways.

School Council are also expected to present an assembly to the school every term and will be providing information in the school newsletter for their classmates and parents every half-term. School Council also has its own display board which we use to give information about what we have been discussing in our meetings.

This years successful candidates are; 3A - Luke and Sue. 3T – Eddy and Atlanta. 4C – Nishan and Megan. 4J – Isaac and Aurora. 5S – Dereen and Ellie. 5J – Eyuale and Reese. 6A – Anthony and Tayyibah. 6L – Abubakr and Megan. We wish them good luck for the year ahead, we are sure they will do a good job of representing their classmates’ opinions and views.
