Year 3 Work
2008-9
Literacy
Our fiction unit on familiar settings produced some excellent stories based around a child in a lighthouse. The main focus was on the language we use to develop the mood of a scene.
Most recently we have been working on creating a non-fiction report based around the Romans. It has been great to be able to use the new laptops to publish our work to a high standard.
Numeracy
We linked some of our work in numeracy with our history topic on the Romans. We learned about the system of Roman numerals, and then wrote our own Roman sums.
Art
In our art lessons we have been working on portraits that show relationships. We hope you can learn something about our relationships by looking at our pictures.
RE
We listened to the story of the Good Samaritan and thought about the message it had for Christians. We realised that it had an important message for all of us – that we should help everybody even if they are different from us. We then made up and acted out our own modern day versions of the story.
History
We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Romans and why they invaded Britain 2000 years ago. Boudicca’s revolt was particularly exciting with the burning down of Colchester and Londinium then the final battle with 100,000 Celts against 10,000 Romans!
Science
‘Magnets and Springs’ was our science topic for this half term. We came up with all sorts of fun tests and experiments to help investigate our questions such as,
‘Which type of magnet was the strongest?’ We also came up with our own uses for magnets and springs. Below is a game we came up with for a magnet:
