National Schools Healthy Status

In July 2006 Gospel Oak was awarded National Healthy Schools Status. This is an updated and more rigorous version of a status we achieved in 2004. We are one of only 5 Camden primary schools to receive this prestigious new award. Throughout 2006 we ran a "GO Healthy" campaign - click here to find out more |

The benefits of being a 'Healthy School':
A Healthy School promotes the health and wellbeing of its pupils and staff through a well-planned, taught curriculum in a physical and emotional environment that promotes learning and healthy lifestyle choices. www.wiredforhealth.gov.uk
The aims of the National Healthy Schools Programme are:
- to support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours;
- to help to raise pupil achievement;
- to help to reduce health inequalities; and
- to help promote social inclusion.
There are 4 main areas of the programme, each with strict criteria about provision for:
- personal, social and health education including sex and relationship education and drug education (including alcohol, tobacco and volatile substance abuse);
- healthy eating;
- physical activity; and
- emotional health and wellbeing (including bullying).
The school received a moderation visit and was praised for, amongst other things, our 'GO Healthy' campaign, our lunch buddies, our PE and sports provision and our behaviour records.
