Behaviour
We have high standards of behaviour at Gospel Oak. We know this because.
- Visitors remark on the calmness of the school.
- Staff say that behaviour has transformed over the past four years and now they feel free to get on and teach.
- We hardly ever have to use our power to exclude children.
- Remarkably often, when classes go out on educational visits perfect strangers will approach teachers and say that they have rarely seen such well-behaved children.

We will not pretend that our children are perfect but we are proud of the improvements in behaviour. This has been achieved because.
- We provide stimulating lessons, and children who are involved in learning will not be misbehaving.
- We have high expectations, clear boundaries, and are strict on the little things before they grow into bigger ones.
- We deal resolutely with bullying and racism, which are now very rare.
- We make the children responsible for improving their attitudes and behaviour as well as involving School Council.
- We provide lots of options during the long lunchtime break such as sports clubs, computers, quiet drop-ins so that children are occupied and not bored.
- We have a superb team of three learning mentors who help children to improve their attitude and behaviour.
- We receive excellent support from parents for our approach.

Some quotes from year 6 when they were asked about behaviour.
"Adults and children are good role models. We learn from each other."
"Children respect each other and the adults around them."
"We set our standards high and we are proud when we achieve them."
.and from staff.
"I've worked at Gospel Oak for over ten years. I used to spend around 25% of my time dealing with behaviour issues, but now it is hardly 1%, which shows how much things have improved." (Jef Gooding)
"As a Learning Mentor at Gospel Oak, I have seen a huge improvement in the behaviour and attitude of the children in the past six years. I am now much more able to focus on the children's learning rather than dealing with challenging behaviour." (Joan Dunbar-Pattrick)
