G.O.S.A. Gospel Oak School Association

Who are we?

GOSA is Gospel Oak School’s parent/teacher association. GOSA plays an active part in school life at Gospel Oak. You don’t have to join up in any formal way because every parent, carer, and staff member is automatically a member.

What do we do?

GOSA organizes events, like the annual Winter Fair, and social activities such as quiz nights, that help to bring the school community together. We also organize fundraising activities, for example bake sales (which we call Class Teas) and car boot sales. The money we raise means we can pay for things that will improve school life for the children but which are over and above what the school could normally afford. For example, GOSA pays for special play and sports equipment, educational visits from music and theatre groups, and plants for the school gardening club. In particular, GOSA contributes to the cost of school outings which can prove expensive and for which parents might otherwise be asked to pay.

We need you to get involved

While your children are at Gospel Oak we do hope that you will find a little time to support GOSA. You can do this by coming along to events and taking part. You could also join our team of helpers and spend the odd moment baking a cake, selling ice creams, or helping us clear up or set up at an event.

Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings which are held about twice or three times each term. As a registered charity, GOSA also has a formal committee which is always keen for new members.

GOSA has an information board on the wall of the reception classroom in the playground. You can check here every day to find out what is going on.

Any new ideas about how money can be raised or spent are always well received. Either see one of the committee members in the playground, ask in the office, or click to email one of the officers below

Taking part in GOSA activities is a great way to get to know other parents and teachers and make a valuable contribution to the school life of your own children and others.

The Gospel Oak Gates Project

During 2008/09 GOSA is embarked on an effort to get rid of the ugly old chain link playground gates and replace them with something that will enhance the look and reputation of the school. We have already raised nearly £5,000 towards the cost of installing elegant cast iron gates that will be decorated with metalwork oak leaves inscribed by the all the school children with their own names.

What does the money get spent on?

Over the years, GOSA has provided money for a whole range of different things for the school.

The train climbing frame was bought for the infant playground. The infants can climb and sit on it during their playtimes
The climbing frame was bought for the junior playground. Although it has been there for sometime now, it is still as popular as ever.
One of the most recent things to be bought was the shelter for the junior playground. Child can sit away from the sun (or rain!) and talk to their friends.
GOSA bought a fish tank for the entrance hall of the school. The children have enjoyed the range of fish that have been kept in the tank.

The children in Year 4 completed an art project with a visiting artist. GOSA paid for the materials and for the mural to be installed.
