Music
Gospel Oak children from year 6 down to reception, receive an hour (slightly less for KS1 and reception) of music teaching by a specialist each week. It is our aim that by year six every child is able to read music, compose music with an understanding of music elements , has learnt about some key events and composers in music history, and have had the opportunity to learn either recorder or keyboard (melodicas). |

Instrumental Lessons
We also offer all children the opportunity to learn an instrument through a paid scheme offered by Camden Music service. We currently offer trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, cello, piano and guitar.
We also have a school orchestra, which is open to all children who have been learning an instrument for at least six months. The orchestra is sounding really amazing and the children love the opportunity to play their instruments as a group.
Both year 6 classes, have been learning brass instruments through the Wider Opportunity scheme funded by the government and Camden Music. Already, after learning for only a year, they have played at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Courts of Justice and the Camden Staff Conference (and we have some more concerts already lined up). We had a range of instruments to choose from: trumpet, cornet, trombone, tenor horn, baritone and euphonium. The children were taught in small groups by brass players from Gospel Oak (Tony Woodhouse, music teacher and Cat Burks, Year 6 teacher) and with the fantastic tuition of Deirdre Box and Nic Hurst.

Singing
Each week we both KS1 and KS2 have a singing assembly. These are liked by the children who learn songs from big Broadway numbers to small and simple rounds.
Our choir, like the brass band , has also sung at the Royal Albert Hall at the recent Camden Music Festival.

Year 6 needed to create a radio jingle using a program called Music Maker to advertise a new product. They needed to think about how to advertise a product that wouldn't be seen using music, voice overs and singing. The results were impressive.
